Auditions took place for Cinderella in the early part of this month and rehearsal commenced shortly afterwards. A pantomime is a new venture for the group and is produced as a joint venture with Cullompton Community Centre where the performances will take place. This will be the first pantomime in Cullompton for many years and is eagerly awaited by many of the residents.

October 2011
A very unusual production of It Was A Dark And Stormy Night, a spoof horror mystery by Tim Kelly, was very well received by the audience. Each member of the large cast gave convincing performances in this funny but sometimes chilling play. The parts were many and varied: from the ageing Hepzibah and Arabella, the horrific Ebenezer and the grotesque Uncle Silas to the extremely effeminate Smiling Sam - and all of the relatively normal characters on the way - each played their part in providing the audience plenty to talk about on their way home.

September 2011
A Midsummer Night's Dream finally finished its summer tour with a performance at the Bridwell Park Fair. Performance conditions were difficult as it was in a vast outside arena and there was the added challenge of a strong wind and a jazz band. Nevertheless it was once again well received. Some members attended the Operatic Society's production of Guys and Dolls which was a fabulously entertaining evening.

August 2011
The Shakespearian tour continued with more performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream, all of which were well received. Rehearsals also commenced for the autumn production of It Was a Dark and Stormy Night which is being directed by Jeanette Simmons.

July 2011
A Midsummer Night's Dream had a great start to its summer tour with an outside production at Farringdon which was very well received. The performance was preceded but some tasty food provided by the host, Janet Sawyer, and followed by a selection of songs by Tiverton Operatic Society.

Cyanide with Rosie has now completed its very successful tour and A Midsummer Night's Dream commences its tour on Saturday 25th June at Farringdon (Exeter), courtesy of the Farringdon Society of Arts. The tour is visiting five venues with a sixth venue under negotiation at this time. June is also the month of the AGM and this will take place on Thursday 23rd June in the rehearsal room. Auditions will be taking place on Thursday 7th July at 7.30 in the rehearsal room and all interested persons are invited to attend. However, only fully paid up members are permitted to audition, but you can pay on the night.

May 2011
Casting has now been done for Cyanide with Rosie and practically all of the costumes finished for A Midsummer Night's Dream. Two busy months ahead with two touring productions and readings for the October major production taking place in early June. So, in effect, there is plenty of opportunity for all members to involve themselves in one or more productions.

April 2011
My Blessed Uncle played to good audiences throughout the run and was well received and reviews were good. Maybe it will find a place in the schedules of other theatre groups.

The Murder Mystery to tour in June is to be Cyanide with Rosie. Casting to take place in early May.

March 2011
Rehearsals for A Midsummer Night's Dream move on apace and with great hilarity. It promises to be an entertaining production, touring in June and July.

The final stages of rehearsal are underway for My Blessed Uncle and it is hoped that this major production receives praise as it is entirely an in-house production: playwright and director.

February 2011
The casting has been done and the first rehearsal has taken place for My Blessed Uncle to much hilarity. It promises to be an exciting and fun packed production.

Discussions are taking place about future productions and, as always, directors (old and new) are always required. So, if you have an idea for a play that you would like to direct, please let a member of the committee know as soon as possible.

November 2010
The first rehearsal has taken place for A Midsummer Night's Dream to much enjoyment and hilarity. It promises to be a very successful venture. Maybe the society will take more strides in the classical direction from time to time.

On Thursday 25th at 7.30 pm there will be a chance for the society to get together for pre-Christmas drinks and nibbles in the rehearsal rooms. Why not come along and catch up with the members that you may not have seen for a while over a glass or two of something cheering?

Over the coming year the society hopes to offer a number of workshops for members such as improvisation, make-up, lighting and maybe even an acting master-class. There will be an opportunity to sign up for these at the social evening.

October 2010
The society had another successful production with And Evermore Shall Be So by Norman Robbins. Audience figures could have been better for this production but for the many who attended it was a great evening out.

Rehearsal dates have been published for the excerpt from A Midsummer Night's Dream which now has three venues booked and hopefully more will be arranged in the near future.

September 2010
A strong bar has been purchased to support a hanging rail in the wardrobe but this has yet to be fixed in place. this will enable many more costumes to be hung out of the way and permit, to a greater degree, the floor space to be used in the wardrobe.

The group of interested 'performing' societies which meet at Tiverton High School to consider how they can work together with the school has been named 'Endeavour'. It is hope that this group can assist in the development of resources at the school to benefit the community and the groups themselves. further, it is hoped that co-ordination between the parties can lead to the production of mutually beneficial materials and performance.

August 2010
August was a quiet month in reality. Rehearsals continued for the next production and some initial arrangements were made for the Shakespeare production due to tour next Summer. Yes, forward planning is essential.

It is hoped that a Murder Mystery can be chosen to tour over a similar period to the Shakespeare and work will be done on this after the Autumn production.

July 2010
Rehearsals are well under way for the Autumn production 'And Evermore Shall Be So', written and directed by Norman Robbins. The cast has been selected for next Summer's touring production of an excerpt from 'A Midsummer night's Dream' which is to be directed by Graham Sessions. Rehearsals will commence for this in the near future.

The Murder Mystery was a success and blooded two new members who acquitted themselves extremely well. New members are always welcome and there will be opportunities to audition for the Spring Production and also the next Murder Mystery.
June 2010
Rehearsals are well under way for the Murder Mystery which is due to be performed at Knightshayes on 9th July (courtesy of the National Trust) and at Calverleigh Village Hall on 10th July. Please book early to avoid disappointment. Rehearsals for this are taking place on Tuesday evenings in the rehearsal room to avoid any conflict with the Autumn production which will be rehearsing on Mondays and Thursdays when it has been cast.

A new shelving system has been installed in the rehearsal room store which should permit far more space for the storage of properties and costumes than previously. Thank you to the members who gave up their time to construct the shelving and to place the properties and costumes back afterwards.

May 2010
The Diary of Anne Frank was decidedly a hit according to the reviews and the comments received. For a play with such a sad and a poignant message it was pleasing to see that most of the audience had recovered from their tears as they left the auditorium and had been replaced by smiles of enjoyment. Congratulations are due to all involved in this production.

The next project is to audition for the Murder Mystery which is due to tour in July. Currently, it is booked to play at Calverleigh and at Knightshayes. The auditions for this mystery will take place on Thursday 13th May at the rehearsal room in the Pannier Market.

April 2010
With the first night of 'Anne Frank' getting ever closer everything seems to be in place for a dramatic production. Please encourage your family and friends to buy tickets for this play which promises to reveal some very exciting and moving performances.

The next touring production is at the planning stage and a reading  and auditions are being help at the rehearsal room in the Pannier Market in Tiverton at 7.30 pm on Thursday 13th May. March 2010
With only four weeks to go to the first night of 'The Diary of Anne Frank' final touches are being put to costumes, properties and the all important lines. Books are at least down and, for the most part, the actors do not need prompting. Rough edges need smoothing but the prognosis is good for a successful production. The crew are now all in place and ready to move into action as soon as the New Hall becomes available to build the set.

February 2010
Rehearsals are well underway for 'The Diary of Anne Frank'. This is an excellent production with which to celebrate the 70th years of the existence of the society and the 65th year of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp.

Coincidentally this year brings the performance of the play 'A Time to Speak', adapted from the holocaust memoirs of Helen Lewis by Sam McCready. This play has been brought to Devon by the Farringdon Society of Arts, for which Tiverton Dramatic Society recently performed their play 'George'. This play will be performed by Joan McCready on 30th April and 2nd May 2010. See the advertisement at the foot of this page.

January 2010
Tiverton Dramatic Society completed its latest tour with a performance of 'George' on Saturday 16th January 2010. The performance was staged at Farringdon (Exeter) Village Hall in front of an audience of more than fifty. The hosts on this occasion were the Farringdon Society of Arts (FSA) which is well known and well respected in Devon.

The evening included food which was a fusion of Israeli and Lebonese styles with recipes sourced from the book by Yotam Ottolenghi and prepared by Janet Sawyer, who also has a pivotal role within the FSA. The food and the performance were both well received by the assembled multitudes.

Thanks must go to Janet Sawyer for organizing the successful evening.
